  • First of two bottles, but as usual Dard & Ribo with their synthetic corks are fresh. Youthful currant and blackberry, feels lean and fresh, smooth. The feeling is that of cool velvet. The fruity youthfullness is well matched by the northern Rhone and syrah characteristics of black olives, violet, meat. licorice and salt. The volatility is watching from behind the curtaind but never really shows itself, just reminds you of the natural wine origins. After about two hours the mouse shows itself but then I am 95% done with this 12,5% beauty anyway.

  • Starts off quite green and anemic. With air it gains some weight and the greeness turns into light herbal notes instead. Dark fruit (blueberry, blackberry), olives and some savoury tones. Highly drinkable but much more than just a vin de soif.

  • Rich pure red and black fruit. Hints of sour cherry and ripe blackberry with perhaps a slight touch of raw meat. Some vibrance and acidity; smooths out with time. Some tannins behind the fruit. Outstanding.

  • Outstanding expression of St-Jo Syrah on the nose, very pure and precise. All harmony and balance on the palate, a very nice arc of flavour, with spicy minerality and fat liquorice on the fairly long finish. Obviously one of the benchmarks for the appellation. Already drinks well and should keep for a decade at least.
