  • Exactly a year later since the last time I had this, the nose still has that ripe red fruit, but it’s just a little darker. Sweet balsamic and savory mediteranean herbal notes dominate more than the fruit now. The palate is similarly darker with less acidity and more savory notes than before. It’s a step up in elegance and silkiness. I think for your average drinker, this is at its peak. Because I like more acidity than the average person, I preferred it a little more last year. Still, this drinks like a slightly less tannic Brunello of about the same age. It’s a wine that’s a meal within itself with its mix of sour, savory and sweet notes.

  • About 45 minutes breathing in glass. There’s a bit of Malbec, Cinsault, Carmenere, and Cabernet but it is around 85-90% Carignan. Almost 60 year old vines. Very similar to all the previous De Martino VIGNO I’ve had, just smoother of course with the age. The acidity has calmed down compared to the younger vintages I’ve had of this wine but it is still acidic and has vibrant red berry fruit on the palate with some spice and savoury notes, The nose is very nice and complex with ripe dark red fruit, sweet and savoury herbal notes, sort of a sweet tobacco, leather and at high intensity. This is aged in large oak containers. I think it’s in a good spot with tamed acidity and tannins while still being powerful on the nose and palate with some complexity. Always a big wine to have with food like a meaty pasta or big steak. Only around 1,100 cases made.

  • A food wine not to be drunk on its own. Nowhere near Parkers 96 rating. This 2013 is still too young. Very tight, opened somewhat over course of the night but not enough to enjoy, will try again in 24 hours.

  • Full Circle BevCon: Southern Hemisphere (SF: Sir Francis Drake Hotel): Lots of vanilla new oak. Structured with elevated acid and tannins. Savory red meat notes. Ripe red fruit. Some sweet-tamari development. Slightly elevated alcohol. I didn't really understand this - need to taste again.

  • Vraiment particulier et très atypique pour un Chilien. Au nez, on aurait presque pu croire à un alcool fort (scotch!). C'est aussi bien poivré.. en bouche, la texture est très soyeuse et délicate. C'est fort bien fait, mais on n'est pas dans ma palette.
