Classic woody, musty, plummy smell. Taste is dry and chewy with tannins that are present without overwhelming the quality. The flavor is similarly musty to the taste and it's not very complex but there's enough there to hold interest, mostly as a complement to food (beef) rather than on its own.

Cherry, mint, cedar, asphalt and a little dusty. Does not seem overly tannic but still feels well structured. Nice acid. Has a reputation for being long lived. Sometimes seemed like an 86, sometimes a 90.

Had this with a filet mignon and it really could not have been much better. I decanted for a little over an hour and it was in great shape. This wine is like a bowl of cherries, but in a very good sort of way. Plenty enough structure and balance but the tannins are well under control with a few hours in the decanter. The nose on this wine is fabulous. I am a little embarrassed to say that I don't have more experience with Diamond Mountain District wines, but this definitely helps make me a believer. I would drink this within the next two or three years... the fruit here is too good and expressive to let it fade away.

Decent but not special. It improved the second day, I would recommend decanting.
