  • 2014 Oremus Mandolás was refreshing and nuanced. The developing dry Tokaji was clear and pale lemon in colour. Aromas of ripe red apples, honey and lemon zest jumped out of the glass, followed by hints of lanolin and sage herbs.

The mouthfeel was dry and rather light-bodied, complemented with high level of laser-sharp, fresh acidity. Flavours of grapefruit, wet wool and toast accompanied the medium zesty finish. The alcohol level was at 12.5%. The dry Tokaji was pure Furmint. It shared similarities with bone dry Rieslings, though Rieslings tend to develop mineral oil characteristics, whereas Furmints often have a touch of savoury herbs.

The Álvarez family of Vega Sicilia founded Oremus in 1993, which was three years after the fall of communism. The modern winery was built in 1999, with emphasis on representing the traditions and history of the Tokay region.
