  • MNB: Greece! (Home (Noe st)): (blind)

Medium minus ruby to a garnet rim.
Elevated intensity nose - floral cherry, bright ripe red cherry, black cherry, savory tamari from tertiary development and possible neutral oak aging. Faint menthol - pyrazines?

Dry, medium body, 14.5% alcohol (13.8%), medium plus acid, high tannins - chewy.

I'd definitely go nebbiolo though acid is a bit lacking.

    Guess: XiNOmavro 2009.
    Actually: diamantakos 2012 Xinomavro
Most is in 350L cask, 2nd through 5th barrel (discards after 5th use).

Mark tasted all 30 wineries. Giorgios Diamantakos is the man - consultant to most of the good wines.

Like Raul Perez - best winemaker - mencia, consults all over spain.

    Laterals:
    - Barolo/Barbaresco - Acid is a bit low, not super floral, meatiness is a bit different, vegetal aspect is super different.

This is a super interesting wine - like barolo but quite different in flavor profile. I dig it!

  • Light ruby. Wcents of red cherry, red berries, strawberry and dirt. Medium body, high acidity and fine tannins, unlike what you would expect from a xin. Very approachable and delectable.
