I have enjoyed successive vintages of this sometimes overlooked Chardonnay over the years.
The tightness that is a feature of this wine at first release is starting to ease, and there are great stonefruit and nutty barrel ferment aromas on the nose. French Oak drives the structure, and underpins a strong, dry backbone of complex stonefruit flavours. This and its long, creamy finish make the wine - integrating nicely now - a great food match with stronger-flavoured white meat and vegetarian dishes.
On the basis of this tasting, all the evidence is that the 2014 vintage will – like others before it – improve further, and likely be at its peak at 4-6 years of age.
