Got a glass here now and it has been decanted for an hour. The color is still pretty dark ruby and hides its age. The nose for the first hour is pure alcohol. Once that burns off, I get green forest floor and very light vanilla and woodsy notes. The front of the palate is less interesting than the back of the palate and the finish! The initial taste is dark black cherry, and this is where the acidity comes through. The finish comes through with tannins still intact with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, dark berries, and some oak. I don't see any reason to hang onto this wine for much longer and I would suggest drinking as soon as possible while there is still some enjoyability left. It's a massive effort for its time and I am impressed by how it held up, but drink right away is this is on the downslope.

Decanted. This is still super young after 16 years, showing plum, savory herbs and a chewy but still pleasant finish. I think it bodes well for future development. Ever so slight touch of heat on the finish but that's really picking nits. My palate is more old world focused, so keep that in mind, I'd give well stored bottles 3-5 years if you only have one to open. I think everything will come into place nicely, plenty of fruit and just enough acidity.

Decanted 30 minutes. Good mature Cabernet with lots of ripe fruit. Full body that conceals the 14.9% alcohol. Drink up.

Blackberry, oak, mint on the nose with a bit of pop. Though the alcohol is high, it's not burdensome. Not as moving as the 96, but a nice drink.
