Alas! The end of an era. I picked up a number of late 90s vintages of this wine. This was my last one. Most were still drinkable. This bottle held up very well. Delicious dark red fruits and good deep colour (not a tinge of brown, unlike the last bottle I had from this vintage).

Still drinkable! 96 and 98 are still ok. Unfortunately 97 (in my experience) is past it. Dark cherry, black current and hay. A tinge of brown, as expected for the vintage. Drink now to soon

Taken to a 2016 Penfolds corking clinic and was fantastic. A little past its prime but wow. The winemakers all joined in for a taste. Drink up ! The wine looks tawny colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle.

Another old bottle shared with friends who are similarly adventuresome. We expected little and were very pleased. The wine is deep crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like toast, cherry and raisin. It tastes like prune, plum and cedar. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Not as good as the 2001 Cab Merlot, but still very nice. Needed more time to breath than I allowed as it was a little harsh on the back pallet. Initial pallet exhibited predominantly Shiraz fruit. Mid pallet was dominated by cassis levelling out to a dry finish. Only a hint of tannin and no oak to speak of. Still drinking well.
