A very pleasant Tokaj. Sweetness somewhat exceeds the acidity giving it a semblance of sugary simplicity to a degree. Slightly non concentrated also but has a lovely lighter palette of orange-peel, cinnamon, brown sugar. Probably wont scale the heights with more age given it is at the quarter century mark already.

Straddles 91/93. Super brief, at the end of a night of many other (red) bottles. Layers of orange, honey suckle, and other yellow-to-orange fruits, with a slight nutty/woody/caramel overlay. Creamy, dense mouthfeel while maintaining a lightness that avoids being syrupy. Not cloying. You get a sense of zesty acidity, but it just fails to reach a level of making this solid 93.

Blind. Obviously Tokaji, and feels 5 Putts sweet. Orange marmalade with a touch of honey. Decent acidity. Sweetness just starting to drop a little with age. Very decent if not top flight. ***1/2

Over cheese in Lionel and Rachel's, this was a lovely pairing for both the aged Gruyere and Stilton with fig jam. It was no slouch on its own either. It had a lovely Tokaji nose to it, with dried apricots and quince and figs wed to a whiff of browned fruits and twists of citrusy brightness, all this playing against a backdrop of honey, rubber and molasses. A lovely, rich bouquet. The palate had an amazing freshness for a 21 year old wine, with rivulets of bright acidity enlivening zippy flavours of apricots and quince, again against a background of earth and spice and glowing honeyed notes stretching out on the finish. Delicious. There was plenty on the sweetness but the acidity kept it well in check. Not the most complex of wines perhaps - it was certainly less complex on the palate than on the nose - but it was very pleasurable indeed and drinking well now.
