An excellent Cote Rôtie, no 2 red WOTN. Definite smoky bacon, blackberry, warm cake spices, hot spiky herbs and beef jus. Lovely savoury quality. Fine tannins all resolved, plenty fine acidity. Very decent length. Very nice drop.

A Mid-Summer Sunday Supper in Wandsworth (Chez Bruce): Very top drawer Cote Rôtie, very young for its age. The nose has an immediate sizzling lardon character with some maple syrup sweetness. Around this core there are a number of complementary aromas including Christmas spice, bouquet garni, some picked walnut and beef pho. Palate is substantial, spicy and full of promise with a savouriness that complements the pork cheek dish that accompanied it

Sunday Night Free Corkage Night (Chez Bruce): On the nose - bacon and Parma violet. On the palate this continues - maple bacon perhaps. Savoury , there’s a hint of beefiness to it. This wine makes me want to sing Carmina Burana - thrilling, exciting stuff.

Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, medium garnet-tawny color with lots of very fine sediment. Clearn, medium intense, fully developed nose. With its dried petals, it could remind me of a great Barolo, but it also developed some raw meat and iron notes. Bone dry, high acidity. 13% abv. Medium+, mellow tannin, already a tiny bit drying. Medium+ body with lots of dried petals, roses, some meat, fine red fruit. Good power and tension, quite elegant and balanced, long finish. Most likely a bit past peak, but still very good. 92

Bouteille et bouchon en parfaite condition, in the neck. Carafé 1+h, c'est nécessaire pour éliminer les vapeurs d'alcool. Robe carmin, nez classique sur les arômes de gras de jambon, de truffes, la bouche est structurée, la touche acide est bien présente, les tanins sont intégrés, la finale est d'intensité moyenne, sans exubérance. Une bouteille parvenue à maturité selon moi, très bonne mais sans plus.
