Sigh, last bottle of this. Decanted 5 hours in advance, still opening up and rounding out. Same color as a Ch. des Tours rosé. Dark cherry & leaves on the nose, on the palate the acidity is what jumps out, out of balance with the body. But an hour later balance is starting to emerge as we finish the bottle. Overall impression is this bottle was slightly off.

Such a gorgeous array of aromas - classic Reynaud. Palate is just a bit tight and awkward on the finish which holds back an otherwise great wine, but the nose is so good. Would hold this for 2 or 3 years.

Very light red on the pour suggested a Burgundy, but no mistaking the Rhone spice with sweetness on the nose and palate. Medium to full body, acidic and food friendly and fine tannins suggest this is time to drink it!

Weekend in Westport; 8/25/2021-8/29/2021 (Westport, CT): This wine never fails to delight (except perhaps in the price appreciation which has been rather extreme and makes it less of a 'case buying' enterprise than it once was). The Rayas elegance with a little bit more grit around the edges and perhaps less of the sweet fruits and more tea levels and potpourri.
The 2011 Côtes du Rhône La Pialade is really beginning to drink beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of griotte cherries, peonies, sweet spices, lemon thyme and subtle hints of fennel seed. Medium to full-bodied, delicate and precise, it's built around melting tannins and succulent acids. As I wrote a few years ago, this has more in common with the Rayas and Fonsalette wines—in a lighter, even more ethereal register—than it does with Reynaud's Château des Tours.
