Tart out of the bottle, this needed 2 hours of air. Lovely dark color. Red currant, parchment, pencil shavings, subtle bitter herbs. Savory, the fruit lacks power but excellent structure and overall very classy. 92 pts today, it should continue to improve slowly for a long time. At this price I would hold.

Nose of plum and blackcurrant then toasty caramel. Mineral and plenty of acidity. Real depth of flavour and complexity yet fruit is not heavy. Very long finish. Tannins still dominate a little so could improve over the next 5 years.

United Cellars Bordeaux dinner (The Gidley, King Street, Sydney): Plummy, rich, quite worked, loads of new oak, loads of caramel, vanilla dominate proceedings. Medium plus intensity acidity proves slightly sour, plenty of woody tannins, pretty awful stuff.

Floral and open nose of exuberant plums and an array of black and red fruits, enveloped in a layer of vanilla. Very much "of a style" but undeniably charming. Rich on the palate, but there is freshness holding it together and also a dimension of gamey complexity. Slightly lighter bodied than some of its peers. Drinking nicely.

If you're looking for a wine with real, character, minerality, depth of flavor and the ability to age at a fair price, look no further. This insider wine is loaded with earthy, stony, fresh, ripe fruits, silky tannins and layers of ripe, dark, dark red fruits in the finish. There is a real depth of flavor here. Drink it young or age it.
