Opened at Granor. Deeper yellow color. Loaded with petrol aromas on the nose. More minerally than fruit at 14 years old. The acidity has faded which resulted in a slightly flat taste. 83 points.

Winemakers you know (Mike G. visits) (Mike Posk's): Light gold in color. The nose has a lot of petrol already. Also some minerals. Very dry and slightly think. Some heat. There is a nice complexity, but this drinks much older. Not sure if this was an off cork or just the wine, but seemed past prime.

Ohio vs Michigan Wine Clash 2008; 11/16/2008-11/20/2008 (Ann Arbor, MI & Columbus, OH): Oil and slate boiling off the top on the nose. Very linear and pure, almost uncompromising. Good body, not revealing a lot on the middle. Solid finish. Intense aromatics and solid structure, but the feeling that the wine is still waiting to find the time to give itself. Consistent across two bottles in both judgings.

I tried this at the winery with Jim Lester and a friend. Second time I have had this wine. The first time being a barrel sample in 2006. This has changed quite a bit in the last 2 years. Gone is the tropical fruit on the nose which it rather Germanlike. It has also put on some weight. 2005 was an excellent vintage. Warm, dry and a sunny harvest on October 26-30th. Only 50 cases were made. 13% alcohol and vinified dry in an Austrian style. Notes of white currant, pear, spice box and a little petrol. Overall a solid core of crisp fruit with fine minerality on the finsih. This wine will improve and probably show best at about 7+ years old. 89-90 points.
