There are no common wines in Vosne… Bright red berries, a touch of barnyard funk, menthol, nutmeg, and chai spice on the nose. Pure crystalline red fruit that continues to build through layers of exotic spices on the finish. This wine is so pure you are at peace as you sip on it... Then, after about 90 minutes this wine finds another gear. Very Vosn... This was a perfect place to enjoy this wine. Comte Liger-Belaire opened a new restaurant, La Cuverie de Vosne which overlooks La Colombière.

This came out (too) late at night. I am very glad that it could redeem the possibly only "disappointing" CLB wine I have ever had (aside of a few corked bottles). Drunk 4 years ago the bottle i tasted was worryingly oaky. However now it was either a better bottle and/or the wine has eaten its oak. This was now signature CLB red cherry goodness, so easy to drink and wonderful baking spice emerging with some air.

Forest floor, mushroom, sweat and blue/red fruit on nose. Close to stanky although there is a good blue fruit core. Almost Morey like on nose. Blows off with some air. Blue fruits on palate. Lots of density and heft. Needs time. Low alcohol.

Bottles drunk with lunch or dinner while in Burgundy; 2/10/2020-2/14/2020 (Burgundy): For the money, this is a pretty disappointing wine. Expressive with plenty of sexy black cherry, tea and spice. Comes across a bit heavy handed with little subtlety. I wonder if this has the structure and freshness to support the fruit. High 80s now.

Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): For the price this commands on the secondary market, I'd be pretty upset. But in France... In any case, there's a really nice perfume on the nose, with all that black spice and heady fruit. But like most of the other lieu-dit CLBs I've had, this falls short on the palate, without much of the weight and potency that the nose promises. Here, it's a little foursquare and short, with some grainy tannins too.
