  • Still improving and I start to understand where the initial 91-93 Pts. came from it was rated before release. This has became a lot better over past two years. It's a little bit on the sweeter side however, not actually bone dry...

  • Bottle 1 of 3. Pop and pour.

N: Lots of Earth and peat incorporated into a blue fruit nose.. just a touch gummy fruited (artificial?). A little baking spice, a little alcohol, A little bacon fat!?! No cedar tones.

T: full fruit, tasty, round, earthy, long and a touch of heat. Delicious.

F: long, a little heated, but fruit and tar driven. Medium+ tannins. Medium acid.

Would likely benefit from more maturation… but it's really enjoyable now.

Day 2 - flavors and textures similar to day 1. A bit muted, but still tasty

  • 2015 Château de Laussac was rich and ripe, reflective of a Merlot-dominant blend in the hot and dry 2015 vintage in Bordeaux. The developing Castillon red was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments. Aromas of ripe black plum, blackberry and dark chocolate were accompanied by baking spices, blood and earth.

The mouthfeel was dry and full-bodied, accompanied with a medium level of acidity and a medium-high level of chalky tannin. There were flavours of mulberry, mocha, graphite and Pu'er tea in a medium smoky finish. The alcohol level was at 14.5%. The empty bottle weighed 435 grams.

From the information on Castillon appellation website, the vines are cultivated on clay and limestone soil, covering 31 hectares. The blend was composed of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged in a combination of new and used oak barrels for fourteen to sixteen months.

  • Pretty decent flavor, which I have come to expect from the 2015 vintage. Tannins are still prevalent but fruit is solid. Similar to my last bottle 6 months ago, which I remember being an up and comer, but failed to write a review. I see a more harmonious wine in a few years. Hold. 3.6 stars.

  • PnP with a nice grilled steak. Classic pairing alongside the meat. On day 2, it had mellowed quite a bit and was unremarkable. Good QPR.
