Pretty intense yellow-green color of an unripe lemon. Very odd and rather thiol-driven nose of pickle brine, raw potato and a hint of wasabi. The wine is very fresh, lively and mineral on the palate with medium body and bright, off-dry flavors of tangy citrus fruits, ripe red apples, steely minerality, some sour peach flavors, a little bit of raw potato character, a hint of wet stones and a touch of wasabi. The wine is pretty light on the palate, but the touch of residual sugar lends an oily touch to the mouthfeel. The finish is lively, fresh and very energetic with long and tangy flavors of tart green apples and lime, some developed waxy character and a hint of saline minerality.

This wine would've been very nice and refreshing little Kabinett with some serious age to it, but the rather skunky and slightly green-toned aromas in the nose strip quite a bit of pleasure from the wine. Some reductive aromas I can stand, but as the wine shows very little to none of the varietal characteristics, I can't but feel a bit disappointed. Discounting the nose, this is a very lovely and enormously drinkable Kabinett that is still yet to hit its plateau of maturity despite the almost 17 years of age. If it weren't for the nose, this could've been very terrific stuff. Still, I must say, the wine is pretty much worth the 14,90€.
