Dylan on the vinyl, Dylan in the glass. With this weeks announcement of him getting the Nobel Prize it seemed like the perfect occasion to open the only bottle that I found during this summers trip to Marche. And the timing proved perfect by other reasons as well - the wine drinks wonderfully now! Fantastic mouthfeel, dark fruit - red and black - massive and fresh, all those lovely autumn forest notes - but not too much of any, a light smokiness, a sublime touch of spices and meatiness . Good structure with an impeccable balance of acidity and tannins. Truly surpassed my expectations, by far. Drinks perfectly now, but I can't find any sign of the wine starting to recede.
I bought the wine more out of curiosity, as Bob is ... well, Bob. And this wine is made in his honour and by his blessing (his signature is printed on the back label, together with the wine makers - a big fan himself, of course). But little did i know what a fantastic wine it would be.

Mostly Italian (and some others) with friends (Trentina's): I had this years ago on release and found it very good but needing time. This was my only other bottle. It was done as a tribute to Bob Dylan. I don't know if they still make it or not. Very nice showing for this wine from that really hot vintage. I admit to thinking this was Cabernet but upon arriving home, I see that it is 75% Montepulciano and 25% Merlot. It drinks like a young-ish Cal cab to me. The nose had dark cherries and cassis. Also some leather and spice. Great texture. This is a big, fruity wine that has medium tannins. Lots of dark cherries and some earthiness on the palate. Good acidity. Showing some tight complexity but unwinds with air. Nice finish. No hurry at all on this one.

Pure red colour, no hint of ageing. Lots of fresh red fruit on the nose, vibrant and youthful, despite it's 10 years age. Similar palate, fresh fruit abundant, a wedge of tannin and bracing acidity. Superb wine, retained incredible structure for it's age, far too young at the moment. But gorgeously drinkable

Deep, densely coloured. Dark red fruit, a touch of spice, but mainly slightly brairy plum, mulberry and cherry fruit. Ripe, full but not overtly 03 on the palate, but this is pretty simple. A touch of acidity but fairly non-descript international bloandness. Shocking value at 35 quid really. Perfectly correct but very little interest. **1/2

Opened to try and get a sense of this. Spicy plum fruits and fairly one dimensional at this stage. Shorter on the finish than I expected. Still some tannins to be absorbed. May prefer Sassi Neri to this blend.
