  • This was my last of the 14 vintage. Drank with my cousin visiting from the east coast with ribeye steak and Chinook salmon. Had to treat him to some good westcoast hospitality. The Nota Bene was decanted about 30 mins and got better as the meal progressed. Wonderful nose, tobacco and floral notes. The tannins are almost gone. Nice weight and finish. Lovely red fruit. I don't think it would improve with more time in the bottle. It was well enjoyed! My advice is to drink it!

  • The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like fig and raisin. It tastes like fig, medium toast and lead pencil. The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

  • Relieved to find this being one of the better Nota Bene’s given Black Hill’s notable (pun intended) inconsistencies.
Drinking well right now with an appropriate level of tertiaries. Predominately black fruit with some notes of stewed fruit. A bit fruit heavy for good balance and a bit down on the finish but otherwise, very good.

  • New to me, this bottle behaved like a sparkling when I opened it so I was a bit concerned. Seems to be ok though as this is one of the better Black Hills offerings I have had lately.
Medium ruby with medium intensity notes of black currant.
Dry, medium plus acidity and tannin with high alcohol and medium body.
Black cherry and currant with a bit of chocolate all medium plus intensity leading to a medium finish.
All in all, a very good offering.

  • If you drink this wine on its own, you’d give it the benefit of the doubt based on its label. If you drink it with something of a similar price point you quickly realize how average it is. It lacks fruit and finish. It’s overpriced and fails to live up to the hype.
