Venue: Dekantar, Sarajevo; General Notes: Zlatan Otok Winery 2011 Plavac: I asked the waiter for a glass of really great light red wine and I got this lumbering hulk of burnt fruit jam. De gustibus non est disputandum*, I guess… Prune, saddle leather, moist tobacco, strawberry. Smells like an over-oaked California Cab made out of the best raisins Sun-Maid could grow; but more cloying, sweet, and syrupy**. Super concentrated, like a red wine reduction. I want to like Plavac, I really do. I am striking out tonight. 1 out of 4. .. * Latin, translates as: 'In matters of taste, there can be no dispute.’ ** If possible.

An interesting non-barrique Plavac Mali from Croatia. Spicy wine with sweet cherry liquor fruit. An almost off-dry sensation on the palate similiar to some southern Italian wines (Primitivo, Negroamaro). Soft tannins and a slightly funky note on the finish. Ready for drinking. Decent qpr at 14 Euros. - 88 points

Brick red rim; funky nose; lean, scrawny even, palate, lightweight, better with food. Best drunk up.
