  • Premier Cru Red Burgundy (Willamette Wine Storage, Portland OR): Leather, black pepper, dark raspberries, and smoke give the nose a brooding feel. This is soft on contact, and it delivers a cool sensation as well. Cherries come in early and some big acidity evolves as the finish sets in. It rips through the finish, makes the mouth water, and then it's gone quickly. Interesting! The tannins are nice and soft, and the fruit shows some cranberry and raspberry flavors as well. This is dark without being heavy, and I was really impressed with the complexity of fruit flavor here.

  • 1997 and previous Premier Cru Red Burgundy (Willamette Wine Storage): The first thing I noted and wrote down on my first smell was, "Finally something ready to drink!" The nose is very balanced and open, fantastic flavors including balsamic and overall just very graceful. Really nice, expressive mid-palate, with more of the fantastic balance. For me, this wine wasn't about the particular flavors, but its balance and grace throughout. I could sit down with a bottle of this and relax, meditating on the wine. 91+

  • 1er Burgundy with the Wine Thursday group (WWS, Portland OR): The nose here is smelling really old, rotten wood, old cherries, balsalmic vinegar, and oddly, watermelon seeds. The palate is extremely attractive right off the bat, balanced fruit/old earth/structure plays beautifully on the palate. Some light red fruit, a healthy dose of dark fruit, rose buds, earth. This is SUPER balanced. This still shows slight signs of youth in flavor, shows a good dose of old characteristics and terroir and just feels SO nice in the mouth. Easily the most balanced Burgundy I've ever had, this is drinking so well tonight. I've yet to have that 'experience' that puts me over the edge with old Burgundy and this seems to represent what everyone's telling me good Burgundy should be. Feminine, light on it's feet, impeccably balanced, long finish and just so delicious. This wine was easily one of the best experiences I've had with aged Burgundy. (keep in mind my experience is low)
