  • Drank over two days and felt this was much better on night one when the freshness and vibrancy was more apparent. Plums and red berries, a little gravelly but quite lively and deep fruited. Was smooth and supple and very delicious. On the second night it was much looser and less integrated, tannins much harsher and more prominent and the palate was less welcoming and drying. Overall a nice wine but feels like an early drinking wine.

  • Dark ruby colour, fragrant nose of violets and plums - leads into a smooth yummy take me home and slurp and purr wine. Yes I liked it. The earlier long review is right. Tannins are smooth and the wine is refined - yet still has a Cabernet like profile with good acid and graphite spice notes - WA origins apparent. Just a delicious wine.

  • After pop and pour the wine appears a little volatile but give it a half hour or better an hour and its wonderful.

This is hedonistic Cab Franc. If you've tasted Chinon you will appreciate the subtle raspberry and plum palate with the wonderful bouquet of forest flowers, crisp acidity, ample but restrained fruit. This Blue Poles Reserve is ten notches of volume above that but retains the link to the unusual grape variety rarely seen as a single variety.

There is immediately an inviting bouquet of dense dark fruits to go with the deep colour, not yet showing brown but no longer purple either. This is just a tease because the first sip results in a wine tingling experience hard to describe. Fruit, refined tannin, oak and acid all dance on the palate.

Given another hour the density of this wine is impressive. All the very correct C/F fruit is there and now its forceful but fruity and enjoyable in the mouth with sustained flavour, a great finish.

I like to keep a tiny amount in a glass and nose it much later. This wine shows wonderful aroma of flowers, and some refined vanilla from the French oak - exactly what I like to see as a final test.

The wine has many years ahead of it but honestly why wait when its so enjoyable now in its fruit phase. There is no harsh tannin or acidity and its just such a superb drink. My only 2 more bottles will be consumed over the next 12 months I think. Thanks Mark, great stuff.
