DG 11/2018 What a pleasant surprise. We noticed this reference in a wine list and decided to try it, tempted by the vintage; we wanted to drink something mature and were not disappointed. Quite a generous nose: a lot of ripe fruits with apricot, peaches, nectarines, pineapple, oranges, and pears; the maturity of the wine was evident with a strong presence of mushrooms; surprisingly spicy, predominantly cinnamon, clove, and white pepper, with black tea and a toasty base of toasted/freshly baked bread; we also found a lot of milk chocolate, coffee with milk, salted caramel, honey, and quince. This was a first contact with this maison for us, and the experience exceeded our expectations. We drank it with Italian food and found that it was heavy enough not to be overshadowed by the pasta. The long ageing ‘sur lattes’ is evident in the maturity of the nose, although the palate is certainly still ‘fresh’; a decent acidity will ensure several years of further ageing. 92pt
