  • Deep red to almost purple colour. Nose had some rich fruit with a little earth and the faintest hint of alcohol. Clean structured palate with non of the earth but crisp fruit, fine tanins and unobtrusive acid. Medium length dry finish. A more complex wine than the cost would suggest.

  • Opened one hour before the meal, not decanted. Presented with a color of deep garnet in the glass, with a fine clear rim. The nose was quite tight and “dusty” for the first hour, with a trace of dark fruit and damp earth, the palate hinted of dark fruit. After an hour the nose blossomed. The mustiness was shed and overtaken by strong, sweet, ripe dark fruits. The palate followed the nose. Not complex but, certainly worthy of spending some time with my nose in the glass. The nose would be best compared to a good vintage, young(ish), left bank Bordeaux in my mind. The finish displayed a trace of fine tannin and was of a moderate length. Well balanced and smooth. I have little experience with this grape. I have no reference to judge if this was typical or atypical. I do know that I purchased this for $15.00 in March 2002 and wish I had purchased more than this lone bottle.

  • Dustier and darker than the Marcarini, sweeter, even riper fruit, with related violet-floral notes but here too, they come across as a bit dustier. More heavily wooded than the Marcarini, I felt, but also a wonderful example of a modern Dolcetto. Also showing a dry, tanic backbone that suggests it would do well for another couple of years.
