Gone is the “magenta on the rim with a core of black olives” I noted in 2009. This simply opaque from the core out to a somewhat broad ruby rim. The nose and palate are seamless with plum, blackberry, violets, black olives, bacon, and ….. black pepper that never stops. The description of “pork belly with pepper” that was noted in ’09 is equally apt today. The mouthfeel is, as you would anticipate, big, but not at all burly. A tremendous wine if you like peppery Syrahs. I suspect this is made primarily with whole cluster fermentation. The 2005 was the first time Joey made wine from Turner. Unfortunately, this is my last bottle from this vintage. 14.3% alc. With grilled Yellow Umbrella sausages (Puglia and garlic). 07.16.23. Highly Recommended.

Such a youthful wine to be 15 years old! Deep blackberry and plum form the core, but with ample amounts of black pepper, brined black olives and iodine pumping up the bouquet and palate. Tensley makes such complete, complex, and satisfying wines, that I don’t know why my cellar isn’t filled with them. Thick sediment coats the shoulder and stretching down into and completely around the bottle. 14.3% alc. With Harbison and blue cheeses. 08.21.20. Highly Recommended.

No real notes, but solid observations of raspberry, some blackberry, plum and core of iodine and black olives. A mineral-iodine and back pepper finish. A complete, complex, nuanced wine. Very familiar and comforting. Thick sediment coating the shoulder and stretching down into the body of the bottle; elliptical shaped. 14.3% alc. With blue cheeses (including bleu de basque), charcuterie and crusty bread. Highly Recommended.

I’ve not pulled a cork on this bottling for 8 years. It’s as if it hasn’t aged a bit. It still displays magenta on the rim and a core of black olives. On the pop and pour the initial flavor was black olives and iodine with plenty of minerality. A couple of hours of later, the nose is jammy with raspberry, a bit of blackberry, and plum while still carrying iodine and black olives. Gone is the smoked meat and violets. The finish still delivers back pepper. This wine is so complete, so complex, so nuanced. It is nothing less than spectacular. Served in Riedel Rhone Vinum series glasses. Intensely thick sediment coating the shoulder and stretching down into the body fo the bottle not to mention the final pour. 14.3% alc. With Shack attack beef burgers. Highly Recommended.

Alluring Tensley from the Turner Vineyard, this is a barn burner from an appletion generally more recognizable for Pinot Noir. Tiers of dramatic tastes flaunting black olive, soy, under brush and charred cherry skin. Weaves together splendid notes of sour berry, spices and beef broth all intertwined in a fresh cracked black pepper parcel. Unleases brawn and power without being overbearing. Gripping, intense and earthy finish featurning a rich coffee flare. Recommended and autographed by Joey at tasting event at Wades wines 7/2011. Brilliant now, but can go a few more years in the cellar as well.
