Color of honey. Nose and palette share a lot. Syrup of honeysuckle, stems, herbs. Very thick. Shockingly not cloying despite the diabetes-inducing sugar levels—great acid. A finish that lasts for minutes.

Medium gold color. Dense and unctuous, this has to be the thickest mouthfeel of any Sauternes I've ever had (except for the 1997). Flavors of apricots and honey, with plenty of acidity but with great balance. I remember when this was released, Parker thought it would last 50-100 years. After finally opening a bottle, I would not disagree.

From half-bottle. I'm pretty tolerant of high-intensity sweet wines but this one just goes too far for me. This is so sweet you feel it in the roots of your teeth. In fact, it's really hard to pick through the flavours beyond the sweetness. There's some bitter marmalade and maybe a bit of burnt sugar, but despite what I suspect is absolutely incredible complexity on the palate, it is just obliterated by the sugar.

From half-bottle. So horribly corked that I had to throw out the trash containing the cork to get the smell out of the house. I may have to burn the place down to be safe.

In my opinion, this is better than an Yquem...
