  • Milan Wine Event 3 - A 2014 vintage check up (Altrimenti, Milano): A wine we were looking fwd to checking out on account we have never tried this and we own a few. Also we were hoping for another 2002 Sassicaia success from a poor vintage. Alas no.Unfortunately for now the wine is muted and closed . One but gets a small glimpse of what this could be , it’s hopeful, but really a shame to open now. Soft , round and polished and definitely speaks the language iof a polished and well made wine but at the same time lacks any sort of joy and excitement. Felt like a 90 and really we hope time will help here. We suggest one forgets this for another 5yrs minimum.

  • Dinner get together at Old Holland. Drank in Riedel Bordeaux.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. nLegs.
Nose is clean medium+ intensity, with aromas of elegant cedar, tobacco, pencil lead, blackcurrant, blackberry, dark red cherry. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), fine aristocratic high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of fine cedarwood, tobacco, pencil lead, blackcurrant, dark red cherries blackberry. Very long finish.
Very very good quality. Relatively young Sassicaia but surprisingly very open for business right from pop and pour.

  • This was the second bottle I have opened since 2018. The first was entirely too young in 2018. Opened and decanted 2 hours before pouring and it was still opening. I picked up cherry notes on the tongue without a strong nose. I categorize as medium body with medium tannins late. The wine is good but I think I expected more.

  • Christmas Day wine

Decanted 4 hours, almost no scent on openning. Showing bottle age with subtle browning. Started to smell red fruit 2 hours in, very tight on taste. Drank with prime rib, ham, veg… wine is medium length medium acidity, flavor of dirt first, leather, and red fruit like almost apricot. Medium tannin. Very balanced but didn’t jump out to me. I probably have bad taste. Drank next to a very acidic Bordeaux (Chappelle mission HB 2010) so maybe swaying me. It’s possible it’s too young?

  • Cork broke but wine was great. Well balanced and opened up well in the glass. Dark fruit and nice tannins went well with medium rare prime rib
