  • WSET Advanced (level 3) - Classroom Tastings - WEEK 4 (Texas Wine School, Houston, Tx): WSL3 WK4

Did not taste blind this week

    A: pale lemon green
    N: Medium intensity.
Primaries_Pear, lemon, peardrop, grapefruit (instr. says green fruit and citrus only). This is a SIMPLE/NEUTRAL wine and youthful development.
P: Dry, high acid (instru. says 'medium -' ), medium alcohol (12.5%), medium body (instru. says 'medium -'), medium (+) intensity (instru. says 'medium -') and medium (+) finish (instru. says 'medium -').
Tastes same as on nose but i thought i had faint green pepper. Instru. did not get green pepper. SIMPLE on the palate too.

Disastrous tasting for me. No calibration between me and instructor AT ALL where structure was concerned. In exam situation, I would still reach the 12/21 I need to pass despite this being THE WORST tasting performance that I have had in class. Cold comfort but comfort nevertheless.

C: Balanced? Not much flavor here, and the alcohol burns.
    Length? Instru. says too short
Intensity? Instru. says maybe just at 'medium -' on palate
Complexity? No. Its a neutral wine.
Quality is ACCEPTABLE. Drink now, don't age.

  • Consistent with previous bottle and very consistent with previous vintages. Light gold in color with some green at the edges, this wine showed green apple, lemon, lime and flint on the nose. The mouth feel was dry with crisp acidity, minerality and a spicy note. The finish was persistent with the citrus and mineral notes pairing well. 12.5% abv.

Purchased for $13US/1.0L, this is a very enjoyable, entry level GV that paired well with cheese and rosemary crackers.

Imported by The Artisan Collection, New York, NY.

Purchased for $14US/1.0L, this is a very enjoyable, entry level GV that paired well with my salad today. The 12.5% abv was a welcome addition.
