2013 La Sirena “Le Barrettage” Winemaker Notes/Fact Sheet Announcing our 2013 “Le Barrettage” Rhone style blend. The name came to me a couple winters ago while driving up to Tahoe to go skiing. It’s a fusion of my last name with the classic Rhone wine region Hermitage. Just makes you smile! I hope the smiling will continue when you taste this amazingly rich, silky and absolutely delicious wine. With a Rhone-style bottle, the label also has some delightful French-inspired surprises. The blend comes from several Syrah sites including our own Barrett Vineyards (a tiny 2-acre block at the foot of Mount St. Helena), some Grenache from a vineyard site in the eastern hills of St Helena, and a dollop of Petite Sirah from a neighboring vineyard in Calistoga. All are exceptional vineyard sites, quite rocky and steep, producing an incredibly layered, textural, and complex wine. I was only able to make 285 cases of this special bottling so I hope you will get a chance to enjoy it. Just the Facts: Harvest Dates: Sept 16, 18, 20, Oct 2 2013 Blend: 95.5% Syrah, 4.0% Grenache, and 0.5% Petite Sirah Some Chemistry: 14.8% alc. T.A. 0.59, pH 3.84 100% French oak barrels 45% new for 22 months Bottling date: June 24, 2015 Release date: March 1, 2018 Production: 285 cases Tasting Notes: 2013 “Le Barrettage” (tasted 2/28/18 by HPB) Impressively dark in the glass, almost black ruby or blackberry in color. Deep aromas of fully ripe fruit, classic Syrah aromas of smoked meat, bacon, both red and black plums, pomegranate juice, mineral earth, and a hint of white pepper. A silk bomb across the palate (it’s a “wow”). Cashmere comes to mind. Flavors are layered and delicious with a seamless long finish. This is a thing of beauty for Rhone style wine lovers and a phenomenal vintage in the Napa Valley. A blend of two different Syrah blocks, Grenache for liveliness, and a tiny splash of Petite Sirah for added power. This delicious proprietary “Rhone style” blend from La Sirena was given an additional year in bottle before release because honestly, it just keeps getting better! Why “La Sirena”? The name means “the Mermaid” in Spanish and Italian. I chose it because I’m a long time scuba diver and was looking for something fun and magical to name my own winery. The first vintage of La Sirena was 1994, with the first Cabernet Sauvignon made in 1996. Our current lineup includes; Cabernet Sauvignon, Le Barrettage, Moscato Azul (dry Muscat Canelli), Rosato (dry rose’ from Primitivo), Grenache, Malbec, and our two creative proprietary red blends, Art Bus, and Pirate TreasuRed. Production is always small, focusing on fine wines of purity and excellence - the best that can be made. Wishing you all the best!

Decanted briefly. I think this shows better with a 90 minute decant. Savory, integrated palate with herbs and roasted meats, dark dried fruit, long smoky finish.

Pop and pour. This wine seems to be entering its mature window, integrating the still-vibrant tannins with furry, campfire acid and dark fruit. Super.

Pop and pour. This is aging perfectly with savory dark fruit, furry tannins, finish of campfire in the back of the throat. I love these.

Dark fruit, tar, some raspberry, violets, smoked meat, dark chocolate, tobacco, a rich wine but in a good spot and pleasant juiciness.
