This wine has the ability to be two different things at the same time. It can play the "sit back and drink me with a book" game. The tannins are smooth and supple to allow you to just PNP. All you have to do is contemplate what's in the glass and enjoy. But, it shows it's versatility to also play the "I dare you to pair me with a big steak" game. The amount of dark fruit and spice can fight off the funk of dry aged steak and then leave you with a long finish that reminds you of the essence of coco nibs.

Tasted at Total Wine in McLean, VA on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Very nice wine. Notes of black fruit. Full-bodied. Full bodied. Concentrated and complex. Slightly better than the Moone Tsai Cab from Napa. $250

Moone Tsai: Much more accessible and showy than its 2013 older brother. Sweeter fruit and a little more blue/black fruit (as contrasted with the 2013 black/red fruit profile). A little more dense and rich, but not overly so. Blackberry, plum, blueberry, chocolate, cedar, tobacco leaf, and some darker spice (clove, anise). As with the 2013, a similar leathery note crept up on the back end that imparted some funk to the finish. The 2014 had less of this phenomenon, but there were still subtle hits of grandpa’s old leather chair at the tail end of the finish. Overall, this was my favorite wine of the entire lineup and drinking pretty good at the moment; could likely use another 6-12 months in bottle to see if it can better integrate its flavors. 92+? points.
