Community Tasting Notes (9) Avg Score: 94.5 points

  • HMC provided for tonight's tasting......initially quite tannic and green but over 2-3 hours of air became quite the stunner. Fruit soared and tannins resolved. Green-ness left and it drank exceptionally well. I am not a fan of green tannins and rated this 90 to start but by the end it was an easy 93.

Addendum: just remembered toward the end of the night after this wine had been open for about 5 hours, a wonderful blueberry component showed up. Hence, part of the increase in my scoring as the night wore on with this wine. It transitioned from my least fav wine of the night to right up there with all the others.

  • This earthy and layered Cabernet blend is drinking with real precision right now, though I suspect it will soften and blossom even more in the next year or two. What is remarkable about this wine - and was also true for the 2014 Olmo - is the purity of fruit. I don't mean ripeness or power or intensity, though this wine has many of these things. I mean that the fruit seems clean, unaltered, unencumbered by heavy oak or aggressive extraction (e.g., candied walnuts, red licorice, pine needles). I don't mind a modern wine that swings for the fences, but it's nice to taste a wine that's comfortable in its own skin - and this is such a wine.

Dark purple in color and medium in body, the wine offers intense aromas of boysenberry, dark gravel, fresh rosemary, and white pepper. Tastes of blackberry, graphite, green pepper, and espresso, with a grainy finish that is more herbal than woodsy. Blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc. 14.9% alcohol. I've loved past LMV's for their plushness and roundness, but this is lovey for a different reason: with incredible nuance and impeccable balance, this tastes like a wine you can't get anywhere else in Napa.

  • The nose was deep, dark, and sensual, showing an inviting mix of black cherry, plum and blueberry with hints of wild herbs, and sweet spice. On the palate, I found velvety textures with dark red brambly fruits, sweet and savory spice, fine tannin and a brisk wave of acid that excited the senses. The finish was long, spicy and intense with saturating tannin, tart cherry, and lingering hints of bitter herbs. This is built for the long haul yet already showing a glimpse of its potential.

  • deep ruby, showy nose, coarse tannins, very enjoyable, but like many of the wines by this producer, needs at least 5 years to soften IMO

  • Tasted at winery and acquired more. Young now with oak and fruit battling it out but time will allow their integration that should be even more impressive in a few years.
