Color of dark red. Scents of muddled red berry fruits. Tastes consistent with scents, with mellow tannins, and not much else beyond the forward muddled red berry fruits. While still a decent wine, I don’t think it has held up all that well after 10 years, as contrasted against drinking this wine younger, the latter of which is what I typically have done up until this particular bottle.

Decanted for one hour. Nose of blackberry, blueberry, currant, mocha and spice. Black and blue fruit, mocha, spice and smooth tannins on the palate. Very long finish. Full bodied. Served with reverse seared strip steaks.

First for me with Seaver and this delivered at least initially. Opened and gave it 30 min of air in bottle, first glass nose was dynamite, green herbs, cigar box, fresh crushed dark berries, crushed herbs, cedar, smoke, fresh cut hardwood, white pepper, and something I call ‘that Diamond Mtn note that I can’t put my finger on’ but can pick out blind. Inky texture, viscous flow but in no way thick, even the legs were slow and dark. The palate was not as explosive, showing more restraint and dare I say elegance. Dark fruit with a touch of faint citrusy something or other. Not tart like a red cherry, but bittersweet. There is still a tannic presence, more as a strong skeleton supporting it all, yet a small pucker on a 25-30 sec finish.
With more time, black tea appeared along with a touch of eucalyptus on the lingering finish.
However, after 90 min everything mostly faded, leaving a fairly simple tannic wine with mostly earthy notes and a bitter finish. 95 until 90 min, 88 thereafter. Don’t ask me what happened, I have no clue, fell off a cliff.

In a really good place after a 30 minute decant. I have several more and I’m not sure there’s a reason to hold them longer.

Elegant and bold at the same time. Great from nose to finish. Following in the footsteps of its namesake, a complete game.
