Teochew Clan dinner: Still very much alive and going. Actually tastes like it is finally starting to hit its stride. A bit reductive at first but really unfurls itself over 3 hours. Got better and better as the night wore on. Hard to source but absolutely worth its price, not sure the current vintages would have this kind of aging potential.

Served blind to the group at the end of a long night of mostly Brunello. This was so young and fresh with lots of remaining power while showing lovely spice complexity. Group was guessing 01 or younger. I'm thinking 30 years forward is a sweet spot for top-end Sangiovese.

Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Clearly a wine of very high level, with good intensity of fruit and earthiness. I guessed that this was a 2001; I didn't anticipate how bright and fresh the fruit profile could last after 32 years. The fruit still has freshness to it, and the tannins are yet to fully resolve (they are still slightly grainy).
