  • Well the cross country flight did not harm this wine much.... Upon sitting a bit this wine opened up to a delightful fruit foward treat...

  • Not a typical Cab France, lots of barnyard and smokiness

  • Nice Cab Franc with rustic charm to it. A little Bretty funk with floral qualities busting out of the glass. Cassis (definitely dark fruit) and herbs follow. Medium body, but with lots of tannin and acidity. Tannins are ripe, yet quite copious. The '04 vintage for Buttonwood seems very tannic in general. Great intensity to the wine without it being a fruit bomb.

I like the Buttonwood style and wines like this seem like they could use some age to mellow tannins. BUT the synthetic cork they use is a HUGE aging risk due to a poor barrier to oxygen diffusion. Don't get why they make wines with structure to last a few years but use a closure for early drinking . . . .
