  • Youthful and very much alive, fruit, acidity and supporting tannins in a perfect harmony, stunningly good.

  • The first ever vintage of this wine. 13,5% alcohol. Tasted blind.

Moderately pale and quite translucent pomegranate red color with very pale, almost clear raspberry red rim. Somewhat restrained and quite developed nose with aromas of savory and tart red berries, some mature meaty characteristics, a little bit of earthy spice, light floral character, a hint of wizened black cherries and a touch of sour cherries. The wine is ripe, dark-toned and very juicy with rather rich flavors of succulent dark plums, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of oxidative pruney fruit, a hint of leather and a touch of exotic spice. Overall the wine feels quite developed, yet still fully alive; big, yet very sophisticated and harmonious. The structure is perfectly in balance with the fruit and the medium-to-moderately full body with its moderately high acidity and very ample yet relatively resolved and mellowed tannins. The finish is pretty dark-toned, somewhat developed and rather tannic with intense, matured flavors of ripe dark plums, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of pruney fruit, a hint of savory wood and a touch of animal.

A perfectly matured, sophisticated and harmonious Brunello that is in a really perfect spot right now. The wine feels obviously matured, so the age shows, but the wine still doesn't feel one inch past its peak. Most likely the wine has hit its plateau of maturity some years ago and is going to stay there now for awhile. Although a bit lower in acidity than I'd prefer, this is still one damn fine Sangiovese by all accounts, so nicely developed yet still so full of life. Perhaps not worth the 200-250€ they ask for this wine now, but still an experience. Very impressive.
