  • It seemed the right time to consume this wine at Philly Portuguese byob Koo Zee Doo, since it had been abandoned in my cellar for at least 30 years. Expected nothing good, but what a surprise. Cork soaked, but decent and extracted in 2 pieces. Still semi-dark and cherry in color. No nose unless swirled in the glass and then some cherry and a pleasant light barnyard funk. No sediment. Decent on the palate. Some sour cherry and earth. Didn't fade and got better over time. Reminded me of a village burgandy. All 5 experienced imbibers were pleased with this wine which was not spoiled in any fashion.

  • Poor level: 5 cm below the cork. Medium colour, mature but lively; slightly volatile initially, vinous and warm, fruit of blackcurrants, good depth, perfumed, floral top notes; sweet attack, bright and lively acidity, elegant and well-balanced, good fruit, spice and wood, still with some phenolic grip, fills out with oxygen; good length. Fuller and rounder than the previous bottle.
