  • Opened after another oxidized 02 Marc Colin Chassagne went down the drain. Beautiful wine and unbelievably fresh and young for a 30 year old 1er Cru Chablis - a real shame that these days we have to worry about premox for every single bottle of white Burgundy produced in the 2000s...

  • After two recent oxidized / flawed bottles of 2002 white Burgundy I approached this bottle with some concerns even though the "normal" Albert Pic 1er from 1988 and 1990 vintages I had had some two years ago had been brilliant.
Showing a light to medium golden color, this Vaillons (unlike the regular Pic 1er this comes in a Burgundy bottle) is simply an outstanding Chablis. White fruit, citrus, plenty of minerality, something I would have described as a touch of oak if I had not read that this is aged in stainless steel, and a long, slightly sweet finish. What else do you want? Is 1er Chablis not supposed to be drunk within 10 years or so? Blind and without seeing the slightly darker color, I would have guessed perhaps 2011 or so... 93-94
