  • Deep ruby; plush red & black fruits; palate full of soft/supple fruit, plenty of weight, carried through to long finish. At peak.

Boire d'ici 2024. 89+

  • Day 1: Dark inky red in color with a light clear rim. The nose is deep and opulent upon opening with impressions of dark fruits, dried herbs, menthol, peppery spice, damp forest floor, and minerality but surprisingly became more reticent and shut down after an hour of air. The palate is well-structure and with weight somewhere on the higher end of medium-bodied and the lower end of full-bodied with a good amount of concentration, intensity and power but the considerable presence tannins and alcohol suggests that its best years are yet to come. The flavor components of this South African red blend is dominated by a core of fresh dark blue and red fruits, with lots of vegetal and herbaceous qualities, green tobacco, damp leaves, menthol, meat, and no discernible oak. A very interesting wine but notoriously difficult to delineate. I guess the best way to describe this wine is like the sensation one gets while standing under a grove of deciduous trees on a cool, damp and drizzling late October morning in the North American Zone 6. We’ll have to see how this is tomorrow. Day 2: Tasted much more integrated and fruit-forward as compared to the first day where the damp herbaceous qualities dominated.

  • (58 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 19 % Shiraz, 14 % Petit Verdot and 9 % Malbec)
D+0h: quite some deposit in the filter, quite a lot (big chunks) in the bottle, smells of elderberry
D+6h: smells of blackberry, elderberry and green pepper, full body, not yet completely smooth in the mouth, has a certain edge, which is quite pleasant, has a dash of residual sugar left, in the mouth blackberry and green pepper, in the aftertaste green pepper, blackberry and acidity, very good length (over 30 sec), good red wine, with a long decant this is accessible now already, but will improve over the next 10 years in my opinion, will buy again and let it mature

  • Has a touch of that SA funk. And a bit hard edged to it as well. Since 2012 there are two French wine makers.
