  • I love what Jeff Ames does over at Del Dotto. We gave this 3 hours of air, and it was good to do. A very dense wine of concentrated red and black fruits, with dark cherries, blackberries standing out, mixed with forest floor, anise, tapenade. Still has a nice tannic grip on the back end. No discernible tertiary notes at this point.
I’m not sure that this would stand out in a crowd of similarly priced wines, but it went great with lamb chops

  • Del Dotto Tasting + Barrels & Beasts; 10/5/2018-10/6/2018: Tannic and youthful, but the grip isn't as abrasive as some of the other 2013s sampled. The fruit concentration manages to push through (barely) and provide for some decent pleasure. This wine begs for food. As a stand alone wine, the black cherry, plum, red currant, and black raspberry notes begin to show their faces, but are shadowed by continues waves of alcohol and tannins. Makes for a higher-register experience as a result. Hold for another 3-4+ years.
