Spicy plums, toasted spices, undergrowth and tobacco. Extremely rich palate with fresh acidity and earthy spices. Full-bodied, good minerality and graphite towards the end of the palate. Finish is deep and lingering. Ready to drink in an hour in the decanter and will continue to age for the next 3 years.

Talk about 100-year-old vines! This Shiraz was planted in 1899 on 3.5 hectares. Not many Australian wineries can boast with this number, so it comes as a sort of national treasure. Fruit was of course hand-picked and the wine was matured in French oak for 21 months (some old, some new barrels). Five hundred cases produced.
At one time of my career, I was a huge fan of Barossa, but a palate changes, love changes and best friends become strangers. Now, this is a Shiraz for people that lost faith in Barossa. It possesses this bright, refreshing character perfectly blended with the strength to create something out of this world. Spectacular depth with tones of espresso, mulberry, blackberry, cherry grioche, paprika and tea leaves. Coming back to the Blue Eyed Boy from Mollydooker, this would be that on anabolic steroids. But not in a the-doping-control-committee-is-going-to-get-me kinda way. Let's just say - experience-wise.

4/25/2017 - jmcmchi Likes this wine:
Intense aromas - black spice and tar
Dark long tannins, delicious acidity, should be a gem in a few years
