  • Consisent with previous note, haven’t moved much or anything at all. Feels like the 2013 is slower than its neighbour vintages. Super solid and drinks very well. Guessing 5-10 more years for significant development.

  • 2013 proves to be a slow vintage for white burgundy to mature, just as expected. The MCVV '13 is less oxidative and more reductive than expected. The reduction is all of the noble kind that we love so much, and which provides the wine with a certain tension and 'electricity'. Lean and sinewy on the palate, linear and focused, with a brilliant acidity that cuts like laser through our creamy rabbit/mushroom stew. More than outstanding now, with a solid future. • 65 year old vines, raised in old oak. No secret by now and I'm starting to really pinpoint the profile of the Mâcon Chaintre-label from Valette. Characteristic lemon sorbet, breeze of oxidation, super elegant notes of used oak, high pitched acidity, Granny Smith apples and so on. This '13 feels slightly creamier than last bottle 18 months ago, rounder finish with a little more body and weight. Grows during the evening and peaks on day 2 after a night in the fridge, so no rush at all. The constantly brilliant performances from this label makes me wonder about the benefit of significant cellar time. I really like them the first 2-3 years after release but what will they become and more importantly, will they step up or down? I've decided for now that I won't sit on too many bottles of this label, the stakes aren't that high considering the consistency and quality at this early stage. Win-win.

  • A private lunch (Restaurant El Celler de Can Roca ***, Girona, Spain): Magnum. Fresh and youthful, juicy ripe fruit, green herbs and a hint of aniseed.

  • New years eve dinner, no formal notes. As reliable as previous vintages. Clean and crisp with lemon, lime, gorgeous Granny Smith-apples, great acidity and long aftertaste. Of course very young and will improve but really enjoyable already. Favourite producer. Crazy value.
