Medium to dark garnet colour. Stinky, vomity nose. Red fruit, red cherry, light chlorine, earthy notes, woody notes, bacon, intense spice notes, and smoke, with medium-level acidity, mostly resolved tannin, and good length. The medium-bodied, ripe and broad wine does not possess the smoothness and balance one would expect form a Pinot Noir at this age.
Profile changed to blood orange, earthier notes, and more balsamic notes, with light tobacco on day two, and while sill a little rustic, the wine was texturally improved and more enjoyable overall. Still enjoyable if slightly drying in day three.
Distinctively German. It would be interesting to try the wine again in three years as it seems to be going in the right direction, but this was my last bottle.

Stinky nose of red fruit, bacon, spices, earth and vegetal notes. On the palate, the wine showed crunchy red fruit and cherry flavours, but also raisiny notes, as well as bacon, chlorine, earth, spices and smoke, joined by a black tea leave component on the smoky, medicinal and dry finish, with lowish (medium-minus) acidity and medium-grained tannin that was still present. Spicy, ripe and very broad, with average to good length. Reasonably smooth and balanced if slightly alcoholic. Better than the bottle I had two years ago, but still rustic and lacking the complexity, smoothness and balance you would typically expect from aged Pinot Noirs at this price point. Next bottle in two to three years.

The bottle was in good condition, 2/3 of the cork was soaked. The wine was medium garnet in colour and offered sweet dried cherry, iron, chlorine and spices as well as earthy and balsamic notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed sweet dried cherry, mild vegetal notes, iron, earthy notes, spices and balsamic notes, with lively acidity, mildly obtrusive tannin and good length. The medium-bodied wine had average concentration and did not have the complexity, smoothness and balance you would typically expect from an aged Pinot Noir in the mid price range. 87+
