  • Showed very open and expressive, appealing red fruit, spice & sous bois and a hint of iron in the finish that did not detract. While I don't expect the remaining bottles to fade anytime soon, I also cannot imagine upside from here (like I do with the 99 I drank side by side.) The 99 did not show any hint of iron (nor did i detect that in 00, 01, 02 or 03 from my experience in the last 12 months) so it might be a sign that 98's structure is starting to collapse a bit. Who knows. Do open a bottle now tho, showing just so good right now.

  • 11th of 12, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, another superb bottle little changed from last March's, intense flavours, little upside but no rush. VF (18.5).

  • 10th of 12, opened an hour, perfect cork and level......wow, this has come together at last beautifully, no longer too edgy, high toned or dumb, fab black fruit, hint of earth and spice, with tannins properly melded into fruit, long and energetic, proper Gevrey, good for 10 years at least. VF (18.5)….the late great Denis at top of his game!

  • The most classic Gevrey in tonight's Mortet vertical. While the Mortet stemmy nose was less apparent, the wine showed soil, dark fruit, and iron. Good energy and power. With a few more years, the underlying substance should integrate more. 93+
