Burgenland tasting, wine #2. Christian Tschida practise a very hands off approach in his vineyards, preferring to let nature take its course. His wild looking parcels are instantly recognizable, overgrown with cover crops that preserve biodiversity and force the vines to bury their roots deep. Foot stomped and spontaneously fermented in closed tanks.
Developed funky nose with smoke, grapefruit, rubber, beer, yeasts and spell Apple cider. High acidity, fresh, slightly reductive. 0 BV, 4 WV

Some sources say this is a varietal Pinot Blanc, others say this is a blend of Pinot Blanc and Scheurebe. The grapes are crushed by foot, the must is fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and the wine aged for a year in 500 to 1500-liter oak barrels. Vinified without any sulfites, bottled without filtration or sulfites. 12% alcohol.
Cloudy golden yellow to even pale orange color. Sweet, explosively fruity and ridiculously aromatic nose with aromas of sweet grapey fruit, orange marmalade, some resinous tones that remind me of IPA hopped with aromatic new world hops, a little bit of perfumed floral character, a hint of Nivea hand cream and a touch of candied tangerine zest. The wine is dry, lively and relatively light-bodied on the palate with fresh and focused flavors of perfumed floral tones, fresh grapey fruit, tangy green apples, some stony minerality, a little bit of exotic spices, a hint of rosewater and a touch of creamy richness. The wine is quite high acidity, which lends nice sense of structure and energy to the wine. The finish is bright, mineral and quite tangy with ever-so-slightly tannic tug on the gums and dry flavors of stony minerality, chalk dust, some fresh apples, a little bit of floral complexity and a touch of exotic spices.
A stunningly beautiful, complex and captivating wine that feels unlike any other. The wine is as exuberant as the most perfumed Gewürztraminer, yet it is very distinct and unique in its style as well. Despite coming from such a warm vintage, this wine is remarkably fresh, lively and surprisingly light-bodied in style, making it very crunchy and refreshing. Very unique and hands-down delicious effort. Chapeau!
