  • Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Some game and peppery notes and darker fruits and drinking well but there’s a ton of evolution in the glass. Really interesting to see how this wine does with time and perhaps needed even more of it as the last sip was the best. Will continue to let ours lie.

  • Perfect time to enjoy this 2013 as the tannins have softened a bit. Nice mouthfeel and prominent hints of vanilla and cherry and blueberry. Smooth finish and very nice bottle.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, blueberry, fig, cherry, cinnamon and vanilla. It tastes like blackberry, blueberry, fig, raisin, cherry and vanilla. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

  • Similar to last time at the estate. Trinity Rouge is made up of 46% Syrah, 36% Grenache, 12% Mourvedre and 6% Counoise. Aged for 24 months in French oak as well as an additional 24 months in bottle.

Deep ruby red. A touch dusty on the nose with black cherries, savory herbs, minerality and baking spices. Medium tannins (6.5/10) with balanced acidity and a medium plus to full body. Nicely spices on the palate with some vanilla, black fruits, dark minerality and black cherries. Dry gravel and long finish. Drink till 2028.

  • This wine and winery have a special place in my heart. In fact, as I think about it, I've only ever had the wine with the winery. So this was the first time I've ever tried a bottle with a pnp. And it turns out, that's not the right way to serve this wine. If you do, it comes across as a bit hot and oaky and more disjointed. This is a wine that needs a serious decant and time in the glass to open up. When you do that you get the more elegant side of it. So we'll continue to sit on ours for some more years and if we are drinking will go with the longer decant. Not rating because I don't think we gave the wine an opportunity to show it's best (or the level I know it can be).
