  • This wine has been an incredible value from the beginning and that continues today. Dark fruit mostly black berry, black pepper, menthol, eucalyptus. Tannins are smooth. It's drinking perfectly.

  • Syrah & Shiraz Tasting (Gary's Place, Minneapolis): Day 1: Rich wine with floral, chocolate, mint, black fruits and pepper. Very concentrated wine and tasty. Not an over the top fruit bomb with big alcohol. Should develop over time. 91 points
Day 2: Muted fruit. More earth elements and pepper. Medium finish. Not as good as day 1. 87 points
Day 3: Soy, charcoal, floral and white pepper. You really need to taste this to get the flavors out of it. It is balanced and nice. I like the flavor profile and the lack of alcohol and over ripe fruit some Aussie wines are known for. 91 points
Recommendation: I would sit on these a few more years and sample in 2020. I think these have a long window ahead of them.

  • 3 Day Wine Reviews that Rock!; 2/12/2018-4/15/2018: My second experiment with shipping wine and drinking a bottle on arrival. The first experiment proved no impact on the quality of the wine but this one has me thinking different. I have waited until day 3 to even start a note.
Day 3: Dark purple. Better on day 3 with dust, violets, Asian spices, dark fruits and crushed rock. This is way more integrated than day 1 and 2 and I would have not been able to give the wine a score. Not the Aussie fruit bomb experience here at all. The first few days had a lot of oak/vanilla. Seems to be mellowing out. I will hold this for day 4 and 5 and see where it is at. 90 points
Day 4: More balanced which indicates this needs some cellar time. Nice fruits featuring blueberries, boysenberries and blackberries. Palate is more balanced and almost elegant. Very smooth finish and decant acidity. This should prove to be an outstanding wine.
Recommendation: Hold for 3 years. Decant and enjoy. 92 plus

  • 90 minute decant through a powered aerator. Deep purple with a translucent magenta rim. Prominent nose of blackberries, blueberries, cedar, alcohol and smoke. Taste is not nearly as fruit forward as the nose with most flavors on the mid-palate. Flavors are integrated, includes notes of nail polish, pencil shavings, oak and carnation on the long dry finish. Medium to high tannins and acidity. Definitely has the backbone to age further. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Great QPR at about $30. 90 with potential to improve.
