Memory of the old Caymus barrels used by Charlie when this was opened, bright, brilliant, beet red in the glass, lovely, rich fruit on the nose with mint, black berry, touch musty, opened to rich fruit, improved greatly as the day wore on, shows good acid on the palate, lovely, long berry fruit on the finish with a lingering, flavorful aftertaste.

Drinking a bit of romance here-this bottle was bought on a ski trip to Utah of all places back in 1988- so the score is likely 90 + 3 for the romance. Still a mouthful of great California cab. Has taken on the ripe plummy flavours of old cab, but still some grip, and mouthfeel. Lovely wine, a bit past its peak-but who can complain at 32 years old!

Cork 1/3 soaked. Lively color, no evidence of browning. Aromas developed and morphed quickly. Super-velvety texture, with enough acid and nearly imperceptible tannin for structure. Very good, but perhaps a step or two down from a bottle several years ago. . .

Lots of rich, velvety sweetish black fruit, but not a lot in the way of complexity. Not drying out but a bit tart on the finish. Did not improve with air. Decent wine but disappointing relative to expectations and not worth the price.

Just a beautiful bottle of wine! This was absolutely perfect with a grilled venison loin chop. From the moment it was opened thru the last drop 4 hours later it kept improving. Slightly reticent at first the nose exploded after an hour and kept improving. It got more Bordeaux-like as time went on. The nose evolved to a nice earthy, flinty, graphite and red fruit bloom. The mouthfeel was extraordinary...velvety soft and luscious with layers of fruit and secondary flavors of leather and cedar but very fresh and young tasting despite its 27 years. This wine clearly bested the 1985 Ch. Lynch Bages we had with it.
