We all know this commune produces excellent wine – I mean, with 44 1er Crus & over 100 different terroirs you know there is something special here.
Having visited in ’09, I found the soil special – clay that is soft & powdery, with a special texture…it was almost sticky! It smells good too – not like regular soil.
The nose on this wine is earthy first, with a hint of mushroom & cigar – sophisticated wine, almost intellectual. Ripe, deep raspberries follow…on the one hand deep & lush, on the other – strict, with some wood tannins.
While drinking, I could not help but think of the vineyards nearby – La Tache & DRC. It all starts with the soil.

I was initially disappointed by the “Bretty” notes of furred game, but the more I explored this, the better it became. There were black fruits set in a soft, rich and unctuous texture, seasoned with a generous sprinkling of spice. The wine revealed complexity and a lovely long finish, to the point I was completely seduced. Lovely stuff. CHP 91 pts

Decanted for two hours; dark bright red; intense dark red cherry and earthy complexity on the nose; same flavours on the palate with soft ripe tannins; acidity carried the ripe fruit nicely; very enjoyable now but likely to improve over few years.

Shangri-La - International Pinot Noir Day (Shangri-La Singapore - The Dutch Pavilion): A pretty intense hit of red cherry fruits on the nose and palate, and also savoury, of forest floor and green fern. There’s a fair bit of alcohol heat, though nicely balanced off from the intense flavours. Quite a good length
