Community Tasting Notes (10) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Somewhat closed, should be decanted. Subtle aromas of raspberry and pepper. Medium to full body, ripe blackberry, oak, and a a hint of spices (nutmeg?). Soft tannins, nicely balanced. Better than I expected. Drink now.

  • PNP. Came across like a young right bank BDX. Expressive nose and palate of plum, cocoa and dark chocolate. Full bodied and round, soft tannins, but not ponderous or flabby, medium acidity. 14.5% but not hot. Long finish. Well done and extremely good quality for $25. Another 5-7 years of good drinking.

From a bottle that had only been setting upright ≈8 hrs; ≈55 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; A *tad* of very fine sediment noted @ the bottom of the decanter; Private Preserve used after Day 1.

N: Choc atop rich smelling, RIPE frt (blk plums?); Intensity lurking?

P: MF body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which pretty much resolves by the beginning of the LONG, nicely balanced, ult pleasant finish with an attractive tangy/swtness to the fairly innocuous, yet still firming, tannins. Nice as it was solo, it was even better with the night's revisited Estofado (AR&IT)/Spinach Noodles, the wine's acidity cleansing the palate, with its frt buoying the finish. NICELY done, & likely still a yr, poss 2, away from peaking, then drinking through '26? 14.5% ABV; My EXC/EXC+ (92-95/100 using that metric), & I can see it accompanying most any hearty fare. 🙂

// Day 2: Init closed, but came alive with swirling; Aromatically ≈, but tough to say definitively. P has held acceptably, the balance pulling it through. However, better by itself than it was with the night's Spicy Chx Tortilla Soup (HmMd), which wasn't nearly as charming as Day 1's pairing. Nonetheless, sticking with Day 1's evaluation, though perhaps this is BEST consumed on Day 1?

    Note: Also tasted on 4/27 & & 9/29/18.

  • Reds from Argentina, Chile, & Uruguay (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage.

    N: Closed; Berries, smoke

P: Med body; Very NICE, almost swtish frt met by puckerish astringency which transitions into a LONG finish with a tangy/swtness to those ever present tannins. NEEDS through '21, poss even longer, but SHOULD be a gem when it emerges from its cocoon. [This vendor's $21.95 is at least $3 < any of wine-searcher's other current listings.]

  • Better than previous bottle. Incredibly fruity and round taking in consideration it's a Tannat.
