I’d forgotten what this was made from and on opening would have said it was a mature claret - has that old leather and cigar thing going on, but with a good palate of plummy fruit. Really rather lovely.

Interesting to try a 10 Y ch simone red.. primary fruits are still there coupled with tertiary notes of pot pourri, forest floor, animalic tones… body M, acidity M/M+.. M/M+ lenght.. still more ageing potential ! Very enjoyable

The 2014 Simone Palette Rouge is exiting its primary fruit stage with resinous and garrigue character emerging with pretty spicebox aromatics and dried flowers developing on the nose. Fabulous with chicken fricassée, roasted mushrooms, roasted red pepper salad, and farro. No hurry on the Simone but certainly worth a look if you have a couple.
Too alcoholic and agressive on day 1. Better on day 2, but still very closed, tannins too high. Notes of earthy elements, mushrooms, red berries, mint and oak. In my opinion, you should leave this mourvedre a few more years in the cellar. If drinking now, decant for 6h. 90-92….
