Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 90.8 points

  • New leather, oregano, black cherry. Silky texture with balanced acidity and good body. A bit hot on the finish, but overall quite tasty.

  • It is frustrating with wines (which is most) that take time to open up. We all know critics have developed insights that allow them to score wines as though they have opened up. [Reminds you of predicting a professional basketball game].

What you see in the Dijon is refined tannins (versus rougher tannins). Initially a constrained wine but in 20 minutes the rich fruit, flavors balance nicely against structure (tannin, acidity). Flavor and noise is about the fruit, not the barrels. Lively, fresh red berry flavors with layers of complexity. The finish is ok but if better, a higher rating. This is not a concentrated wine, I wish it was priced at about 20% less but price has never been an issue with the professionals as they give $500/bottles and $50/bottles the same score.

  • Concentrated, gritty, and somewhat heavy. Not a particularly graceful offering, but there is a lot of fruit and oak imparted spice.

  • Purple fruits and berries, good power, but a little clumsy. Typical of the 2014 WV vintage overall. 90-91.
